Una hermandad de varones en muchos establecimientos de la enseñanza superior en EEUU. Por lo general, sus miembros viven juntos en una fraternity house. Cada fraternity lleva como nombre el de dos o tres letras griegas, como por ejemplo Lambda Delta Chi. Hacen obras de caridad y a algunas de ellas les interesa el éxito académico. Han recibido críticas de elitistas y discriminatorias, pero en la actualidad vuelven a tener aceptación ya que su sistema comunitario reduce el costo de la vida para los estudiantes en una época en que la educación es cada vez más cara.
